Final pieces

After looking into various artists I was rather fond of the decay side of my theme and had created three pieces showing decay.
For my first piece I had created a wall hanging which I had created by sewing white textured wallpaper onto fabric then painting over it. Once the paint had dried I had burnt parts of the material and had created stitches using different thickness' of thread over the piece of fabric. I had also burnt organza and had layered it behind the burnt parts of the wall hanging. Using old moulded pieces of wood I had then sewn them on to my wall hanging.

For my second piece I had reformed and refined the wall hanging into a skirt based on the techniques I had used on my wall hanging. I had draped the skirt many times before being happy with it. After draping the material I had burnt many holes into the satin material using a heat gun which I had then stitched into using different thicknesses of threads and embroidery thread. I had also burnt tissue paper and had glued it to the bottom of the skirt to create a boarder.
For my third piece I had created a top in the style of the skirt. I had refined and reformed the skirt by thinking carefully where I want the holes to be; I had burnt two holes in the chest area which using embroidery thread I had stitched through. using zip tyres I had placed them on both shoulders to create a futuristic looking garment. I had burnt tissue and placed in on the neck of the crop top.

Alysm Midgelow- Marsden

This week I looked at a textile artist called Alysm Midgelow- Marsden

During a school trip we visited the Stitch and Knit show in London where I had taken many photos to help with inspiration for when I started to create samples. I had also found a new textiles artist who went into the process of metals decaying such as rust. She used various materials to layer her textile pieces. Alysm created large pieces of work which contained intricate detail.

Although I enjoyed the look of Alysm's work due to all the texture and layering she had done, I found it rather difficult to connect with her style of work; hence why I have only created a few samples for this artist.

I had worked onto felt and had placed different types of organza and had burnt into my sample to replicate the decay of rust. when viewing Alysms work I had notices she had used a lot of wire in her work which I have incorporated into mine.

Here are some design drawings I have created for when I create my final piece.

Anne Griffiths

For my previous artist I had looked into Lesley Richmond who looked into trees so for my new artist I had decided to focus on the cells of plants; focussing particularly on the circler shapes they contain. Doing biology helped me with getting primary photos.

I looked into an artist who went into the cells of plants,Anne Griffiths.

Anne Griffiths is a contemporary textile artists. She uses many techniques to create her textile work such as reverse applique, applique, different type of stitches and many more. I liked the fact Anne went into the biology side to textiles, with me doing biology it helped me with taking photos of plant cells.

Here Anne had used dissolvable material to create the structure of a plant cell; using applique sewn on large circular shapes to replicate cells.

Using dissolvable fabric I had created circular shapes using a free hand machine to help replicate my primary image.

For my second sample I had sewn circular shapes on cotton and felt using a range of different colours
. Once I had finished sewing onto it I had burnt into the image also showing the decay side of the growth of plants. I had also used a range of chalks and hard created some mark making onto my page.

For this sample I had previously created I had photocopied it and worked on top of it to create a different sample. I had tore the paper with the sample on and sewn on to it as well as drawing on to it. I had placed wire into the sample to give it a 3D effect. Using embroidery thread I had created a range of different hand sewing techniques.
